Structure market entry around segmentation, route to market, localization, partner assessment and a limited commercial test.

NỘI DUNG CHÍNH
  1. Days 1–30: identify the actual decision
  2. Days 31–60: evaluate routes to market
  3. Days 61–90: design a bounded pilot

Days 1–30: identify the actual decision

Foreign brands often approach Vietnam with a broad request for market research. A more productive first question is whether the business needs to validate demand, assess channels, understand competitors or find a local partner. Define the chosen customer segment, product proposition and unanswered commercial questions.

Gather relevant public and commissioned research, local competitor examples, channel practices and basic regulatory dependencies. Do not use national growth headlines as a substitute for product-level evidence.

Days 31–60: evaluate routes to market

Map the plausible route to customers: distributors, direct B2B, modern trade, marketplaces or direct-to-consumer channels, depending on the product. Compare responsibilities for inventory, promotion, customer service and compliance.

Interview relevant market participants where permitted and evaluate potential partners through documented criteria. A large contact list should not be mistaken for a route-to-market strategy. Distinguish researched prospects from partners who have actually expressed interest.

Days 61–90: design a bounded pilot

Choose a measurable test, such as a small distributor conversation program, localized landing page, sampled buyer outreach or controlled online campaign. Define what the pilot will confirm, who approves spending and which data will determine next steps.

Set the decision gate: expand, revise, or stop. Market entry is not a sequence that guarantees demand, and a useful consultant should identify reasons not to enter as well as opportunities.

Request a realistic engagement

A good brief specifies industry, price tier, existing capabilities, intended timeline, target geography within Vietnam and the management decisions expected at each stage.

Ask for a defined deliverable list, assumptions, local-language requirements, reporting cadence and partner-verification boundaries. This makes external consulting work useful to the leadership team rather than merely interesting to read.

Map the key uncertainties before committing capital

A foreign company may understand demand in its home market but lack evidence about local willingness to pay, purchasing channels or service expectations. Prioritize the few assumptions that would change the investment decision. Design research around them rather than collecting a broad assortment of national statistics.

Ask for a competitor and channel map with source dates and limitations. If distribution partners are proposed, specify the criteria used to screen them. Compare an owned local operation, distributor-led model and digital test only where those options fit the actual product and regulatory context.

At each thirty-day checkpoint, document what has been confirmed, what remains uncertain and the next decision. A market entry adviser should not imply that a fixed ninety-day process is sufficient for licensing or commercial launch in every industry.
