Start with what must be demonstrably real
A visual showing exact packaging, ingredient appearance or physical product detail may require accurate photography or client-provided reference assets. A conceptual background, alternative lighting style or campaign setting may be suitable for AI-assisted exploration. A hybrid workflow can combine a verified packshot with generated environmental treatments.
Write down which features must not change: logo shape, printed text, product proportions, material finish and legally relevant markings. An attractive image that changes a product feature can create a misleading impression and a costly production correction.
Compare production dependencies
A studio shoot involves products, lighting, equipment, possible talent, location, art direction and retouching. AI-supported production needs high-quality source material, clear prompts, human art direction, correction, review and rights assessment. Neither route is automatically cheaper or safer for every project.
List final channel sizes, number of concepts, visual variations and markets. Ask for a short look-development stage before commissioning large volumes. The brief should distinguish concept renders from final approved commercial assets.
Review rights and brand consistency
Confirm permissions for third-party references, models, fonts and product images. Establish a human reviewer for identity and factual claims. A team should know how to correct image-generation defects and when to return to traditional photography rather than hiding an inaccurate detail.
Store approved product references and creative standards so future campaign assets stay consistent. Review images in their actual advertising placements, especially small mobile formats where packaging text becomes hard to read.
Write the RFQ around deliverables
Request a quote for specific hero images, adaptation ratios, backgrounds, retouching level, file formats, editable materials and review rounds. Ask whether the provider will receive physical samples or digital product assets.
Judge suppliers on their ability to protect brand truth and meet usage requirements, not only on the number of images they can generate.
A practical hybrid production brief
List approved packshots, dimensions, color references and the product details that must stay unchanged. Then identify elements open for visual exploration: environment, supporting props, lighting or mood. This division helps an art director use generated treatments without casually changing the product itself.
Ask for a small test set before a large production order. Compare the generated treatment at final advertising size and check packaging text, reflections, contact shadows and brand consistency. Determine whether precise retouching, compositing or an actual re-shoot is the responsible way to resolve a defect.
Specify the number of approved masters, export formats, social adaptations and revision rounds. The quote should explain whether source files are editable, which rights and assets the client supplies, and how future campaign variations will be produced.
